In September 2012 Dolmanet suffered a concussion in a game against Austin High. He knew he was a little dinged up, but didnt pay much attention to it.

Three days later at practice, that ding caught up to him. While lining up for a play, Dolmanet fell face first to the ground. It happened again a few plays later.

At the time we thought, okay, he has a concussion. It seems like everyone gets them, and in a week or two hell be better. Thats what we thought at first, explained Debbie Dolmanet, Ryans mother.

It didnt get better. Dolmanet failed numerous cognitive tests the next day, and over the course of the next few months, Ryans life would change dramatically. He missed six weeks of school. He had little communication with the outside world. No television, no computer at times, no light at all. Ryan would have to sit in his room for hours at a time in the dark.

I couldnt do anything. It was going from 12 hour days to school and football and homework to just not doing anything all the time, said Dolmanet.

Months of not being able to do anything is really frustrating, he says.

Dolmanet didnt need a ton of convincing to end his football career early. Doctors advised him to do so, a decision Dolmanet had more or less already decided to make.

Its a scary process. Its really eye opening, explained Dolmanet. If what I love is going to affect my future it wasnt something Id want to do.

Despite everything Ryan has gone through, his two younger brothers continue to play the sport. Ryan even encourages it.

Just because I had a bad experience I dont th

How To Make a Necklace from a Scarf

How To Make a Necklace from a Scarf

A scarf was originally not only used to keep people warm but also to keep them clean. The Latin etymology of the word sudarium, which translates as sweat cloth in English was used to wipe the sweat from the neck and face in hot weather. Men used to wear scarves around their neck or tied to a belt. Soon women also started using it. It was in the 19th century when scarves became a fashion accessory for both men and women. By the middle of the 20th century, the scarf became one of the most essential and versatile fashion accessory. Nowadays, a scarf is not just an accessory. You can make it into a fashion statement plus you can create a whole new look when you wear that old wardrobe. There are so many ways to wear a scarf but heres another idea. Why not make your scarf into a necklace. Its easy to make, there is no sewing involved. Just follow these easy steps for you new accessory.

The first step to making a scarf necklace is to pick out a scarf. Try an interesting fabric or a brightly colored one that is perfect for accessorizing that little black dress and spicing up your dull looking neutral colored wardrobe.

The easiest way to make a scarf into a necklace is by using the knotting technique. Tie a knot in the center of a scarf. Add two more knots of equal distance from the center knot on both sides. Then add another pair of knots to the last two on both sides. You now have a total of five knots on your scarf. Make sure you tie loose knots so you can still reuse the scarf. The only thing left to do is wear your scarf like a necklace.

For variety, you can use one foot of straight link chain. Simply thread the scarf over and under through the chain links and arrange the chain to have equal lengths of the scarf on both sides. Hold the chain link in place by looping the scarf at each end of the chain link. Then wear like a necklace.

To add more pizzazz, use decorative pendants or beads and 20 gauge copper wire. Fold the scarf in half, lengthwise. Insert the beads or whatever decorative pendant into the scarf. Making sure that you put equal distance in between each bead. You can put a few beads in the middle or you can adorn three fourth of the scarf. Just make sure to leave some fabric in both ends for tying your necklace together when you wear it. Coil the 20 copper wire on the expose fabric in between the beads. Slide the last bead on and secure with a small piece of copper wire. Wear the scarf as you would an ordinary necklace.

How To Create Cell Phone Charms

How To Create Cell Phone Charms

Cell phones have become a necessity for all people, young and old. Due to this, mobile phones have evolved into something that can be dressed and decorated to suit ones attire or personality. Today, cell phone charms are one of the top selling accessories. If you want to learn how to make one, here are some easy steps that you can follow.

You need to acquire all the necessary materials in making the perfect cell phone charm. If you are new to this, you can purchase all tools and materials in any bead and craft shops near your area. You will need two crimp beads, a bunch of coordinating beads and decorative spacer beads. You can choose any color as long as it fits the overall appearance. Prepare one head pin that has the right length. It should be able to hold the dangle and long enough to create a string loop at the end. Buy a key ring that is used solely for crafting. For easier and faster results, find a key ring that has a stringing hole and a closure.

As for the beading tools, you would need jewelry wires that can be easily twisted. Usually, a length of six inches will do but it really depends on how long you want your cell phone charm would be. As for the beading tools, prepare a pair of scissors, a chain nose pliers and a round nose pliers.

Before setting your beads, think of a design that would best suit your cell phone. Create a mental picture in your head, base it in the beads that you currently have. When you know the kind of charm that you are going to make, start making it into reality by laying your beads in an order that would result to your preferred design. If you are unsure of the appearance, there are a lot of images and design pictures that you can use by searching online.

As soon as you have set the charm or the dangle, attach the head pin by threading it in the dangle bead. Create a loop on the top by using your round nose pliers. Set it aside first.

Cut your jewelry wire. Make sure the length is twice the size of the dangle. Thread it through the loop that you recently made, through the crimp bead and back again. Leave a tail with a length of at least one inch to better secure it. Firmly squeeze the crimp bead to ensure it is tightly knotted.

Using the rest of the jewelry wire, run it by the key ring, into the crimp bead and through the coordinating and spacer beads. How To Accessorize a Red Dress

How To Accessorize a Red Dress

A lady in red is a sure head turner wherever she goes. Red is a very attractive and powerful color that a red dress will no doubt make you stand out in any crowd. Yet you will look more astounding with a red dress if you know how to accessorize it properly. Here are some ideas you can use in sprucing up your red dress.

Consider the occasion. Whether it is daytime casual affair or evening formal cocktail the accessories you use for a red dress should match the time and kind of event. For casual affair, turn a plain looking red dress to a dazzler by pinning a flower brooch on its left lapel. The brooch must be of contrasting color preferably of lighter shade to make it more visible. Silver, blue, green, yellow or gold colored brooch will create a lovely combination. Meanwhile if you are going to a more formal occasion at night, silver, gold or purple accessories will go well with your dress.

Choose shoes and bags that will give your red dress a total look. The common fashion blunder among many ladies is the belief that to look good, everything should match from head to toe. You do not really need to wear all red, all yellow, all pink or whatever color motif you want. So with a red dress, you can wear an off red color of shoes and bags some shades lighter than red. Silver, gold, black or brown high heeled sandals will match your red dress nicely.

Throw a grey or shawl around your shoulders if you are going to an evening affair, particularly when it is an outdoor party and you are wearing an off shoulder red dress. Meanwhile a scarf can give a rather plain looking red dress a cool, refreshing look.

Put on the correct jewelry. Ruby, diamonds, pearls or opal stones will coordinate beautifully with a red dress. Make sure however that the stones have the same color tone with your dress except for pearls. Diamonds are classic and neutral and can be worn with any outfit. However opal and ruby stones come in different tones. Choose the tone that will match the color tone of your red dress.

Try a pair of high knee boots for casual occasions. Sometimes even a boring dress can be spruced up with the right footwear. So if you are wearing a plain red dress, the way to make it stand out is by wearing head turner shoes. High knee boots black or brown will add excitement to your red dress, especially if its design is quite sporty, such as a halter with standing collar style.

Slip into a nice fitting cardigan. But since red is already a heavy color, choose a cardigan with lighter color. Make sure the dress and cardigan do not clash in color scheme. The cardigan should draw attention to the red dress and vice versa in a way that they complement each other.

Pick a thick bangle. A red dress and a stand out bangle are all you need to have complete, sassy attire.

Julia Roberts is not the only gal who is licensed to wear red dress. Any girl can look gorgeous in a red dress so long as it is worn with elegance and confidence and with the correct accessories.

Evolving Jewelry

Evolving Jewelry

From time to time we come across and artistic individual that has the ability to evolve in their creations, taking their audience to a new level of fashion peaks. The work done with the metal is simply mind blowing. Each piece captures the realness of the artists surroundings. Ryanne began expressing herself through her art form in 1995 after taking a course. She continued to create and by 1999 she started her jewelry business which began to grow year after year.

Ryanne is inspired by the world around her. My inspiration and my work is always evolving hence the name of my studio and Etsy shop Evolve Jewelry Studio. My most recent body of work is inspired by years of hiking in Grand Canyon as a guide. But my work does not only reflect my Grand Canyon experiences. You will also recognize landscapes from mountainous and coastal regions, as well as trees and flowers from these areas. I am most definitely inspired by the beauty and simplicity of our natural world. Living in Flagstaff this can be an endless source of inspiration.

Evolve Jewelry pieces can be found at the Flagstaffs Artists Gallery and 5 Acre Arts. Evolve Jewelry also does expos around Flagstaff with every expo she creates a postcard with a unique piece of her Jewelry as a showcase. I first saw Evolve Jewelry at a showcase in Flagstaff Art in the Park. It was then and there that I knew the world needed to know about this Flagstaff Gem.

Egyptian Revival Designs Reign Over Spring Jewelry Lines

Although weve barely made it through fall, major jewelry designers have already put the finishing touches on their spring 2011 lines. Creative Homemade Jewelry Holders

Creative Homemade Jewelry Holders

Hiding a large jewelry collection in small containers or drawers may seem functional, but the hard to find pieces and tangled items that result are far less than ideal. Use any number of homemade displays to isolate or hang pieces of jewelry to avoid these complications while still looking chic.

Make a very basic jewelry stand with several wooden dowels and a wooden block to serve as your base. Use spray paint and a coat of clear acrylic to color and finalize the dowels and wooden block in whatever color you want your jewelry stand to be. Nail one flat end of a large dowel into the base and stand upright. Turn additional dowels horizontally and nail their centers along the length of the vertical dowel. Space them out evenly depending on how many dowels you use.

Hang a sturdy piece of cork board on your wall, and spray paint it first to match the rest of the room. Hot glue artificial flowers, flat backed brooches, rhinestones or buttons to the fronts of many thumb tacks not the flat kinds. Hang one necklace, bracelet or ring directly on each thumb tack, spacing them out as you please across the board.

A tree branch jewelry stand can fit perfectly into a shabby chic decorating scheme or a sharp modern one depending on your choice of coloring as you create it. Make it as large as your jewelry collection demands, and hang everything from necklaces to rings on its branches.

Create an assortment of visually attractive and functional hooks and knobs on your wall to hang jewelry items. Vary your choices between bathroom hooks, small handles and knobs for drawers and even interesting doorknobs for an intriguing collection of sizes and finishes.

Browse home decorating stores for other objects that may be re purposed as jewelry holders. Authentic or artificial stone busts may be used to hang necklaces. Candelabras designed for wide candles may hold and conceal small items such as rings and earrings.

DISCLOSURE OF MATERIAL CONNECTION:

The Contributor has no connection to nor was paid by the brand or product described in this content. Celebrity Gossip

Celebrity Gossip

The men and women of The Z Morning Zoo were debating why women have such a fascination with celebrity gossip, especially when there is something scandalous. the recent picture of Mischa Barton with cellulite or Lindsay Lohan Hermes Birkin bag filled with $1 million in jewelry being stolen. The women shot back with the issue of men and sports asking why men love A Rod of the Yankees one minute but the second he does something wrong, they hate him and this goes for Derek Jeter and every other baseball player, not necessarily a member of the Yankees. The women also came back with the fact that when there is a football game where the favorite team isn playing, the men root for one of the teams to fail! Another point on the women side: they rooted for Jennifer Aniston because Brad Pitt screwed her over, same with most women rooting for Nick Lachey when Jessica Simpson filed suddenly for a divorce with no real explanation to him, trying to make the point that women don necessarily swarm towards negatives but have things they root for and see as positive as well. They then got to discussing how things like Mischa Barton cellulite bring celebrities down to a normal level. It almost makes what they have seem somewhat attainable. Even the obsession with non celebrities like Jason Wahler and Lauren Conrad of Laguna Beach came up somewhere in the conversation. which I thought was fairly laughable. I have a subscription to People magazine and often speak with my mom and my friends about the current celebrity gossip.

Personally I couldn care less what celebrities are doing. Sure, if they get arrested and start yelling profanities and racial slurs at the policemen, I be a bit startled and read about it but not to the point where it the main story for an entire week.

Beading Connectors

Beading Connectors

This article continues the series of how jewelry works. Prior to this article jewelry closures were discussed explaining the difference between six types of clasps used as closures for necklaces and bracelets.

Those interested in beaded necklaces and bracelets probably have noticed that there are funny looking metal connectors sitting between the beads and the clasps. Two of the more commonly used connectors are crimp beads and fairly new on the market the ScrimpTM design. These two types of connectors are used only with beading wire however not with silk thread or other beading medium.

If used properly both are very reliable ways for jewelry makers to attach beading wire to clasps. Scrimps are more heavy duty and are better connectors for necklaces or bracelets with heavy gemstone or metal beads. If you examine your own necklaces or bracelets you can identiy the crimp beads by the fact that they are flat tubes of metal with a crease running vertically across the tube. The metal tube was originally round. During the process of securing the wire in the tube it was flattened by the special tool used in this application crimp pliers.

How to Use Crimp Pliers:

Crimp pliers are funny looking pliers that have two stations in the jaw of the pliers. Reference the clasp assembly image shown below at the end of the bead strand a crimp bead is strung, followed by one end of the clasp. Then the beading wire is then reinserted into the crimp bead with the end of the beading wire sticking out the opposite end of the crimp bead. The crimp bead is placed in the station so that the open end is facing you. The beading wire should stick out on either end of the vertical bar of the cross in a straight line. Position the crimp bead directly over the hump in the station and firmly press. The crimp bead will sort of curl into a U shape. You should have a dip the middle of the crimp bead with one strand of the beading wire sticking out on either side of the dip. If your beading wires are both sticking out on the same side of the dip you must start over again. It should fold in on itself forming a tube. Scrimps have a barrel like appearance with a screw inside the barrel. The beading wire is inserted in the same manner as the crimp beads although with Scrimps it is no big deal if the wires cross. To secure the wire within the barrel a screwdriver is used to tighten the screw against the beading wire. This is a skill that takes a little practice however as the slot in the screw is quite tiny.

Are Men Comfortable Wearing Diamond Rings

Are Men Comfortable Wearing Diamond Rings

When many individuals hear the term jewelry being spoken about, they often think of women with regard to this item. Although it is true that there are more jewelry items available to women than men, there still is quite a good inventory of jewelry available to the male gender these days. One type of mens jewelry which is quite popular is the diamond ring. The following will discuss the topic of diamond rings for men and determine whether or not men will be comfortable wearing diamond rings by looking at a few different pertinent factors.

One way to determine if the man whom you are purchasing the diamond ring for will be comfortable wearing diamond rings for men is their past history of jewelry wearing. If the man in question is not a jewelry wearer and has never worn jewelry, perhaps not even a wedding band, then maybe buying a diamond ring for this individual is not the best bet. On the other hand, if the man whom you are thinking of purchasing a diamond ring for has worn different styles of jewelry in the past, then this might just be the perfect gift. When considering diamond rings for men, definitely look into whether they have previously worn any type of jewelry.

When considering if diamond rings for men in your life are the right purchases to make, look at the opportunity they will have to wear the diamond rings. For example, if the man in your life works construction six days out of the week where he is unable to wear any type of jewelry and does not have an opportunity to wear the jewelry at any other time, it may not be a good thing to purchase for him. In the alternative, if your man has a desk related job where he wears suits everyday, attends church and formal functions on his days off, then perhaps a diamond ring would be perfectly suitable for him.

The Mans Overall Perspective on Jewelry

Lastly, you should consider the mans overall perspective on wearing jewelry in general and more specifically, diamond rings. Some men are completely against wearing jewelry and therefore buying diamond rings for this category of male would not be a good idea, as it would not see the use that it should. On the other hand, if your man or another male who you are buying the diamond ring for is completely open to the idea of diamond ring wearing then by all means go ahead and purchase this wonderful gift for him.
